Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11: Mounts of Mayhem Guide
Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11 is the Mounts of Mayhem drop. It adds the Spear weapon, several mount-related mobs and equipment, and new visual settings. It remains important for readers using a 1.21-era world, server or modpack even though the newer 26.x releases are available.

Key takeaways
- The Spear has Jab and Charge attacks, with damage affected by material and motion.
- Nautilus and Zombie Nautilus mobs add underwater mount and combat interactions.
- Camel Husk and Parched add desert-themed hostile encounters.
- Texture filtering and chunk fade-in options affect the visual experience.
The Spear: Jab, Charge and Lunge
The 1.21.11 notes add Spear weapons across multiple materials, including a Netherite variant created by upgrading a Diamond Spear. The Spear has a quick Jab and a Charge attack. Its reach and damage rules differ from a sword, and performance depends on factors such as material, view angle and the velocity of the attacker and target.
The Lunge enchantment is exclusive to the Spear and works with the Jab attack. It propels the player horizontally in the view direction and comes with its own hunger and durability costs. Because it changes movement as well as combat, practise the weapon in a safe test world before relying on it in a survival run or competitive challenge.
Nautilus and underwater encounters
The Nautilus is a neutral aquatic mob that spawns in ocean biomes and can be tamed and ridden with a saddle. Nautilus Armor and the Zombie Nautilus variant expand the update’s underwater theme. The official notes list how the mount behaves and which items it can use.
Do not treat every Nautilus variant as harmless: the Zombie Nautilus is described as an underwater mob spawning with a hostile rider. Learn the encounter rules directly from the version notes before creating a farm, adventure map or mob showcase.
Camel Husk, Parched and Zombie Horses
Mounts of Mayhem also introduces the Camel Husk and Parched and changes how Zombie Horses spawn. These additions create new desert encounters and broaden the range of mobs players can meet while exploring. The Camel Husk’s behaviour depends in part on its rider, while Zombie Horses now have natural spawning rules in the update.
Mob behaviour, spawn conditions and drops are easy to misstate in short guides. This page summarises the main additions, while the linked official changelog is the reference for exact light levels, riders, drop quantities and advancement requirements.
Visual options, world and server planning
Version 1.21.11 adds Texture Filtering and Anisotropic Filtering options, and chunks can fade in rather than appearing instantly. It also includes changes to horse movement in water, Creative Inventory grouping, debug renderers and technical protocol details.
If you operate a Paper or Fabric server, check which build of the server software supports 1.21.11 and verify plugins/mods separately. A technical protocol or gameplay feature in the official game does not guarantee that every third-party plugin will understand it. Before upgrading, follow the server version selection guide.
